Duryee on the front free end paper. In April 1861 Duryee raised a regiment of volunteers which became the 5th New York, or Duryée's Zouaves. This regiment saw service at Big Bethel. Shortly afterward Col. Duryée became acting brigadier-general in place of Gen. E. M. Pierce. His command was ordered back to the vicinity of Washington. In command of his old regiment, he fortified Federal Hill, at Baltimore. Covers stained, soiled, rubbed. A better than good copy.
