Stamped burgundy leather covers with illustration in gilt on the covers; title in gilt on the spine; all edges gilt. Prior owners neat signature at the top of the title page; cover slightly rubbed, edges more so, corners bumped; tissue guard for frontispiece is almost detached; penetrating damp stain through text leaving tide lines in the plates. A good copy.

Older former library copy with call letters written neatly at the base of the spine, bookplate, and date due slip. Edges rubbed, two corners bumped, top of spine worn; few plates foxed; fly leaf with gift page pulled. Still, in very good condition. Includes "The Plague in the Forest, A Fable," by John Quincy Adams, poetry by Victor Hugo [Faxon, p. 71].
