New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1881. Sixteen octavo volumes plus the index all uniformly bound in three quarter brown sheep and marbled board; five raised bands on the spine with gilt titling and decorations in blind; all edges marbled; marbled endpapers. 26cm. First published in 1858. This is the revised edition of 1879. Engravings by John Filmer. Maps in color. Volume one has a small white stain on the front cover, volume 9 has small stains in the leather on the front cover and slightly on the spine; all volumes show mild to moderate rubbed edges with some bruised corners and some short pulls in the leather. The spines show little wear and the gilt titling is bright. Excellent shelf presence and in very good condition.

Wear to the spine ends and corners, spine faded though titling is still evident; front hinge reinforced with binder's tape; title page detached. In good condition.
