Bound in crushed blue morocco with gilt fleur de lis on the covers, double gilt rules framing a double gilt ruled oval framing a gilt crown; five raised bands with panels of gilt fleur de lis and the title in gilt; elaborate gilt turn ins and marbled endpapers; double gilt ruled cover edges; bright gilt edges. The frontispiece is of Mademoiselle (Louise) de La Vallière (1644-1710), who was a mistress of Louis XIV of France. She later became Duchess of La Vallière and Duchess of Vaujours. [One copy located at the Library of Congress which differs with this copy: it is lacking the frontispiece and has a plate facing the first page, which in this copy is found after page 6. The binding is not specified. There is no attribution of author.] Spine, spine ends, corners, joints all slightly rubbed, small spot on the front cover; light foxing. Bright covers and in near fine condition.
